About Kristine

Kristine Smets, founder and sole researcher, holds a history degree from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium, a Masters of Arts in History degree from Kent State University and a Masters in Library Science degree,also from Kent State University.

For more than 20 years she worked as a professional librarian. In addition to her academic degrees, she holds a Certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University, and a Certificate of Proficiency from the Rare Books School.  She completed 45 hours of coursework in Genetic Genealogy at Excelsior College, and is a participant in the 36th ProGen study group.

A native of Antwerp, Belgium, Kristine is fluent in English, Dutch and French. Other languages include German, Spanish, Italian and Latin.

Located in the. historic district of Bolton Hill in Baltimore, Chainlines is conveniently located near historical resources in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York. In addition, Kristine makes annual research trips to Belgium and Western Europe.

Kristine is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, The National Genealogical Society,  and many other genealogical and historical societies in Belgium and the United States
